Estes Park Wedding Photography

Back in April I shot the smallest wedding I’ve ever had the honor to be at.

There were 4 people….. Including the bride and groom!

So, here’s the back story…Christine and Paul were making a move across country from CA to North Carolina (Paul is in the Marines and was being transferred.) They’d wanted to get married, but settling on a date months in advance with the military is rather tricky so instead they decided to get married during their trip cross country and picked beautiful Estes Park, CO to be the place where they would tie the knot.

The ceremony was simple. About as simple as it gets actually. Just a pastor, a photographer, and two people madly in love. (I actually had to sign the wedding certificate as their “witness.” I’ve photographed many expensive weddings in extravagantly decorated ballrooms before, and while those are of course wonderful in their own way, this wedding absolutely goes in the highlight book for it’s simplicity and purity.

Colorado Winter Wedding Photography

Here’s a wedding I photographed from earlier this winter up in Boulder. One of the great things about shooting in Colorado is embracing the different seasons in each shoot, which we certainly did with Noel and Andy’s wedding (scroll down to see the bridal photos we did at Chautauqua State Park).

Here’s a few of my favorites throughout the day!

In the attempt to document what happens throughout the day, one of my favorite times to catch people interacting is before the ceremony. People always seem to be in quiet (though evidently sometimes not THAT quiet!) conversation and it’s a great time to document who all was there. Plus, it’s these interactions that brides and grooms NEVER see because they’re hidden away before the ceremony.

I always love these moments right after the ceremony ends and emotions are still high.

Noel was QUITE the trooper for braving the cold weather in her strapless dress! We only shot out here for 7 or 8 mins, but that was more than enough to grab some great images of the two of them with the great backdrop of the Flatirons.

The reception was set up wonderfully back t the St. Julien.

Colorado Same Sex Wedding Photography

I’m back! Please excuse my far too long of an exodus here from blogging! I have a lot of posts to catch up on, so I’ll jump right in and try to update the blog here every couple days with some of the fun shoots that I’ve been privileged to be a part of the last few months!

Back in December I got the incredible honor of shooting both my first same sex wedding as well as a wedding for two good friends of ours! Tara and Vanessa are an incredible special couple who we have such an obvious deep love and respect for one another. Tara was one of the first people I met when we moved here to Colorado, I was looking for a chiropractor, found her practice online, and we’ve been friends ever since! (You can check out her website here, I can’t recommend her enough for anyone looking for a chiropractor!)

Anyways, Tara and Vanessa tied the knot at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, it was an absolutely wonderful celebration for all who were there and who know Tara and Vanessa even a little bit. :) Here’s a few of my favorite images from their day:

Yale Campus Engagement Session

Last month, I made another trip out to the east coast for a fun engagement session with Corinne and Ranjit. Corinne and Ranjit live in New Haven, CT and we ended up walking around the Yale campus getting some fun shots before enjoying some amazing pizza (including a delicious mashed potato flavored pie among others) at Bar in downtown New Haven. We ended up talking for several hours from topics ranging from psychology (Corinne and Ranjit are both psychologists) to our favorite sitcoms of the 1990s. It was good times indeed!

As I’ve written about before, I love traveling for engagement sessions and I particularly love trips to the north east. You find architecture you almost never find in Colorado, particularly in a such a cool place like the Yale campus.

Here’s a few of my favorite images from throughout our session…

Corinne and Ranjit told me an interesting story about how this building behind them is actually a library, but the architect who designed it wanted to build a cathedral (which Yale didn’t want), so instead of building a cathedral, he built a library that looks just like a cathedral! ;) Love it!

Since Corinne and Ranjit are both psychologists, I found it amusing when they started mock fighting each other. :)

Belo Mansion, Dallas Texas Wedding

In early October, I was blessed to head down to Dallas Texas (and to have Katie come down with me!) to photograph Amanda and Brian’s wedding. Amanda and Brian are an incredible close couple with incredibly cool families that we are so lucky to have gotten to know. I knew from their engagement session back in Dallas a few months back that Brian and Amanda would b an epic couple to photograph and they certainly did not live down that expectation! ;)

We came down Friday night and photographed both their rehearsal…

The next morning everyone got ready down at the historic Belo Mansion in downtown Dallas where both the wedding and the reception were taking place.

Vail Wedding Photos

Ahh… Vail Colorado, beautiful fall weather, lovely leaves, gorgeous couple, total wedding photographers dream… Does life get any better than this?? ;)

Here’s a few of my favorite images with Matt and Sarah from their wedding last month.

The wedding weekend started out on Friday with a rehearsal and then a rehearsal dinner at Sweet Basil, a fun restaurant right in Vail Village. Both the town of Vail as well as the restaurant have been very meaningful to Sarah and her family who have been making the trek out to Vail from their home in Kansas City for years.

The night included lots of toasts and for some reason, I absolutely love this image of one of the grandfather’s toasting. While there’s nothing particularly crazy about the image, it’s one of my favorites from the weekend.

Sarah’s sisters toasting…. They spent most of the weekend laughing. I would have loved to have witnessed this family as these girls were all growing up… I quickly got the picture that laughter was something that happened quite frequently in that household!

During the reception, Sarah surprised almost everyone when she hopped on stage with some of her friends and sang a few numbers for the crowd…

The crowd responded. ;) Sarah’s family was all cheering her on from the front row for the entire performance!

Colorado Fall Engagement Photos

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer here in Colorado is being able to explore the state to find previously unknown little spots to photograph my clients. My hunch is is that I could work in Colorado for the next 15 years and still be discovering beautiful new areas to shoot in on a semi regular basis. My latest find is due to the recommendation of my clients Kirsten and Cody who wanted to do their engagement session along the Guanella Pass in Georgetown. We found this one grove where we did the entire hour long session. The colors of the leaves were absolutely magical, and Kirsten and Cody and their dog Oliver were absolutely fantastic to photograph.

Estes Park Engagement Photos

For those of you who have followed my blog, you’ve probably come to realize that Estes Park is rapidly becoming one of my favorite places to shoot, just so many great spots, and quintessential Colorado scenery. My visit with Staci Lyn and Mark last month was no exception. ;)

Here are just a few of my favorite images from my session with them…

Taken with my 400mm f2.8.

Just for fun these next three were taken with my… my 400 f2.8 with my 1.4x extender for a total of 560mm. Yes… I was quite a ways back. :) I just love the long focal length flattens the image and gets such good separation between the subject and the background.

Night time Jewish Wedding Photos

It’s always such a highlight when I get to shoot weddings for old friends and so last year when my former high school classmate Hillary emailed me letting me know that she was engaged and wanting me to shoot her wedding this fall in Chicago I was thrilled for the opportunity. Not only was it a blast shooting a wedding for an old friend, it was also fun to shoot WITH an old friend Kenny Nakai, another fantastic shooter out of the windy city who came out to help document Hillary and Brad’s wedding with me.

Here’s a few of the highlights from the day…..

From their first time seeing each other the day of.

Loved this shot… Brad, his dad, and his father are all avid golfers, so it was fun to be able to photograph them out on the course of the Lake Shore Country Club where the wedding was held..

Because it was a Jewish ceremony, the cocktail hour was actually before the ceremony and the ceremony took place after sunset.

The outdoor nighttime ceremony certainly presented it’s own set of challenges, it was also a neat opportunity to play with the contrast of the lights set up for the ceremony vs. the backdrop of the darkness of the night.

Both Hillary’s dad and her brother play the drums so it was fun to see them both hop up and play drums with the band during the reception…

Pictage was seeking images that evoke feelings of fall for their homepage and elected to use one of my favorite images from Cooper and Elizabeth’s engagement session.
